Feelings

As a pea, one travels through the ravages of war

As a grain of sand does our live matter any more

As a faint whisper of wind upon someones cheek

As our passing reminds no one of the comfort we seek.

During a spring rain that settles on a childs face

During a cool breeze that along the trees doth race

During the life of a warrior he meets many foe

During the time of his death will anyone really know?

Feeling a snowflake upon ones tongue

Feeling an unknown hand of soft kindness that might have sprung

Feeling guilty and depressed as he travels along

Feeling so many things and not knowing what he did wrong.

Hearing a simple song of a bird in a tree

Hearing an old gospel song that comes from deep within me

Hearing a word of rage from those that know not

Hearing a nation full of hate scream things better off forgot.

Loving the freedom that so many died to keep

Loving the feeling of a patriot from way down deep

Loving ones brothers and sisters that went before and even now

Loving God, the flag, country and being not too proud ones head to bow.

All these things a Veteran must feel

All these things a Veteran must deal

All these things and still he loves you all

All these things and when the flag passes he still stands tall.

For a veteran knows no better

For he must rely as always upon himself and the truth can be bitter.

For a comrade, a brother, a soldier of war

For many died, and seems there will be more and more.

Closure

Once again from the embattled past,
More brothers have been returned at last,
Recovered from their foreign beds,
To rest in honor at home instead.

So many more still remain behind;
Though yet alive in loving minds,
They remain lost to the yearning arms,
Of those who wish theyd returned unharmed.

Since that desire can never be,
God grant this Nation will finally see,
On some soon, long-awaited day,
Her last 'Nam son come home to stay.

So many offered all they had to give,
Still, families pray that some yet live.
And if they do, God sustain those men,
And, please, for us all, let it come to an end.

.....For You My Love

i have been everywhere
and nowhere
i have seen love
disappear

blood upon the moon

i have seen so many
disappear
that i have stood at the end
of the world

you cannot help me
as night falls from my hands

i have been there
before
bending to my task

holding bits of daylight
........i do not sleep

tears become stars
and words
dream

in my heart
it is always raining
yet you were the one
who touched my scars

left your tears
washing across my face.

The First Time

I remember you
touching me
and the Sun
dying in the sky

I remember
your lips
your hands
your warm mouth

Your tears touching ............the wounded part of me.

your wounded eyes

your voice crying

your warm lips

loving me.

A Moment Of Silence

Memory remains

our war
was very long ago

the heros of Vietnam
write no words

no letters
home

say nothing at all

in sunlight
bright
or in storms
within the dark of night

they are silent

resting
upon black granite
side by side
and all together

names
upon the Wall.

Distracted

Absence of thought
sudden loss of reality
a single moment
life can change
forever different
than past daytimes...nighttimes

The snap of a twig
a flash in the sky
the sounds of silence
the cries in the night
a brothers coughing
the brighten of dawn

Damn the pain of
daydreaming pasts
in the now present
there may be no tomorrow
fuck this war...fuck this moment
dieing would be a relief

No one should endure
uncertainty of war
misunderstanding it's goal
what's to gain
a past thrown away.... for what
a future that may not
go past the next moment

Is there only one
with these horrid thoughts
Am I alone in mine
help me understand
why I may die
teach me to believe
war is right

This stench covers me
the fear of each second
eyes that won't close
a mind that won't rest
a distraction of sight and sound
distraction...a fatal mistake
will it be mine
will it be now
I AM DISTRACTED
